Oneiros Pavilion

20263D render & virtual environment

Context

A Virtual Conservatory for Immersive Moving Image

Oneiros Pavilion is a virtual conservatory designed as an immersive exhibition environment for video-based and digital art. Modeled in 3D and developed for VR interaction, the space reimagines the architecture of the traditional conservatory as a digital gallery, where its structural surfaces become sites for projection, moving image, and audiovisual experimentation.

The work exists in two spatial iterations: one intimate in scale, designed to be inhabited and moved through at a human pace, and one monumental, where the architecture overwhelms the viewer and the projected imagery becomes environmental rather than pictorial.

Oneiros takes its name from the Greek deity of dreams, reflecting the project's ambition to construct an environment that operates between the architectural and the oneiric — a space that feels simultaneously built and imagined.

Process

The project's pipeline was developed in two stages, beginning with the 3D modeling and design of the conservatory structures before being brought into Unreal Engine for VR implementation. Within the virtual environment, the interior architectural surfaces were adapted to display video-based textures, transforming the modeled structures into immersive projection spaces.

The UV layouts of the conservatories were then used as visual templates to create and test video compositions, allowing the moving imagery to be mapped and adjusted to the specific geometry of each structure. This workflow made it possible to explore how moving image, architectural form, scale, and viewer movement could interact within an inhabitable VR environment.
